Anyone who knows me, knows that as much as I love to keep up on latest trends, its really hard for me to simply just follow them. I always ask B if I’m dressed outrageously but he seems to think that I dress in a way that suits my personality. Often times I wear a lot of black, but my weird love for quirky pieces comes out every now and again. Keep reading to see more photos of this look, Presley, a few tips on what to look for when shopping for vintage pieces and shopping ideas inspired by this outfit 🙂
I know, I know… this is an extremely bright outfit for Fall, but who said everything had to be all dark and monochromatic all the time (though I do love myself some monochrome)?! If we all shopped at the same stores, all wore the same scarves, trench coats and jackets in the same way, where would the excitement be and what would really set ourselves apart from one another? Find different ways to wear pieces you already own to make the most of your closet, use pieces from current trends to enhance your look rather than make it and dress how you feel!! There’s nothing wrong with following trends but always find a way to make the look your own by adding a bit of YOU into it. 😉
So, lets start with this insanely bright blazer. This is a vintage Ralph Lauren velvet blazer that believe it or not, has been in my closet for almost 10 years. I found this pumpkin orange deliciousness a while back and knew that I would love it forever. It might be a little on the bold side for a lot of people but the texture and quality of the material makes me want to wear it all the time…I only wish I had also seen an identical one in burgundy. When shopping for amazing vintages, don’t just cruise for labels, look for the level of quality, condition, sizing and wearability. You’ll find that it will lead you to some pieces you’ll really love and if you’re looking for the right things, it may naturally lead you to those killer labels that would even make some celebrity stylists envious (because who doesn’t love a good vintage piece!?).
To help this blazer fit better to form with the pieces I’ve styled with it, I threw on my trusty Max Azria leather harness belt. For me personally, my harness belt has become my go-to for tying things together. Its almost like a security blanket at times. Making the investment 3 years ago was totally worth it!
I’m such a bag lady. I have shelves dedicated to storing bags, but as much as I love a good purse, the past 2 years I have gravitated more towards function before form, which has led me to building a collection of these trusty yet cute Swedish Kanken backpacks by Fjållraven. They’re simple, lightweight, come in an array of colours and are made of a durable weather-tough material. Extra bonus points for allowing me to adventure around with Presley and all his things including mine without feeling like I have a massive purse to weigh me down.
We live in the heart of Old Town Alexandria and being able to walk everywhere (shops, restaurants, etc) means dressing comfortable is a must.
For this look I chose a floaty, long-sleeved printed dress from ASOS that’s easy to move around in and for a little bit of warmth, these super fun, green opaque tights from HUE.
To add to our fall look, Presley donned his green bandana and harness!
Boots are probably my favourite things about Fall fashion. These insanely comfortable bronze buttoned boots are by Frye. I purchased these about 5 years ago and I still love them to pieces, so much that over the years I’ve invested in maintaining them through getting them re-soled, zippers replaced, leather treated, etc. The leather is just incredible and with a little love here and there they’ll probably end up out-living me haha.
And lastly, my signature Grenadier Outback Fedora to complete the look.
Here are some similar pieces if you wanted to recreate parts or the entire look 🙂
