06112014 – Festival-ready Silk

Style / June 11, 2014

DSC_0068

Everyone’s been posting a bunch of ‘festival’ friendly looks.  The only music festival I’ve been to was a 3 day camping festival that was anything but glamorous but I can totally get with the idea of festival-chic for spring!  I still have yet to create my own diy flower crown but till then, here’s one of my looks.  Keep reading to see more photos of this outfit and to see the shopping ideas I’ve put together that were inspired by this look! <3

I found this silk top/dress from TJMaxx.  On the hanger it looked really slinky, shapeless and more or less resembled a scarf more than a top or a dress.  The length was odd and the decorative buttons looked very sad but despite first impressions, I took it with me to the register along with my other finds.  WhenI got home, I immediately put it on to see how I could style it and well, to my surprise, it looked fine on by itself!

The shape is pretty unique.  At the longest points on the sides, I can see how it can pass for a dress, but with the shorter ends towards the center, it can also double as a long top.  I’ve been wearing it as a top for the most part.  Here I’ve got a pair of shorts underneath just for safe measure but wore it as if it were a flowy dress.

In the past I’ve paired it with my harness belt and other belts to cinch the waist to give it more shape but this time around I wanted to embrace the fullness and floaty-ness of the fabric so I left it to fall naturally.

Of course I had to pair it with another one of my Grenadier outback fedoras!

I’m really funny about the denim on denim look.  I paired it with these denim high waisted shorts originally and at the last minute before stepping out of the house, threw on my denim jacket.  It still looks weird to me but I wasn’t completely bothered since I wore it over the shorts in the end, but here it is if you were wondering what I meant about wearing it as a top.

I figured styling this outfit with a pair of ankle boots was necessary.  Here I’ve got my beloved All Saints Bonny Boots. When I bought these, it took some time till I fully appreciated them.  Don’t get me wrong, when I saw them in the store, it was love at first sight.  I knew I had to have them but it wasn’t till a month or two after the purchase that I really started wearing them.
