I grew up in Southern Virginia, and all these years I never appreciated Southern style till now. Better late than never I guess 😉 Keep reading to see more photos of this outfit and some shopping ideas inspired by this look!
So there’s not too much to say about this look. It’s composed of 3 main pieces if you don’t count the tank top and was very quick to put together. Here’s what I’m wearing:
- Denim Button Up Shirt (AE)
- White Tank Top (Old Navy)
- Satin and Lace Full Circle Skirt (Gifted to me Years Ago)
- Cowboy Boots (Mossimo)
- Dual Tone Oversized Watch (Michael Kors)
Several years ago, while on a trip to the Philippines, my mom and I were shopping and we stumbled upon these skirts! She bought a white satin version with black lace and bought this beige satin and brown lace version for me. I loved that we had matching skirts, not because of anything cheesy but because I knew I got my sense of style from my mom. She taught me that its not how pricey or on-trend your pieces had to be, its all in how you wear them and how you feel in them.
My mom couldn’t be any more right when she put comfort as one of her top reasons for choosing what she buys. You want to feel pretty in what you wear, but you can’t feel pretty if you’re uncomfortable! Everyone’s best accessory is their smile, as cheesy as that sounds and you can’t have a good time if you’re focused on tugging at your clothes or in pain from something you’re wearing.
With that said, just because you choose to dress comfortable does NOT mean you have to sacrifice style. In this outfit I went for something simple. Digging through my closet I found my old skirt that hasn’t been worn in years, a denim shirt that I’ve grown rather fond of lately, and my little pair of western styled boots. All of which are super comfortable and cute in each of their own ways.
The pleating and details of this skirt make it enough of a statement piece that I didn’t feel the need for any loud accessories. Perfect for summertime weather.
It’s always fun rediscovering pieces that I’ve owned and kept hidden in my closet. How are you adding a touch of Southern to your wardrobe this summer? Keep reading for some shopping ideas inspired by this look!
