Normally I like to stick with my makeup bag’s usual suspects: MAC and Makeup Forever. Unfortunately with the summer months, skintone changes from mild to drastic depending on how much sun you’re getting. I was no exception to this despite my usual ghostly appearance. The other weekend I spent a weekend at Camp Bisco and got way more rays than I was expecting. Thanks to this I needed a quick makeup that I could switch to temporarily.
As I was thinking about whether or not I should pick up a new Studio Tech Compact from MAC, I saw an ad for Maybelline’s new Fit Me Shine Free Foundation. As much as I love drugstore dupes for things like a good stay-put eyeliner or a great everyday mascara that can hold up to its higher end counterparts, foundation has always been something I choose not to skimp on. I have tried various Mabelline products in the past and have also given their Fit Me Line products when they first came out. The foundation I was ‘ok’ with, the concealer I only found myself using once or twice, the pressed powder I still buy from time to time and it has worked out well for me over time, so I was pretty interested in seeing how this new foundation stick would hold up. So, of course, I purchased one in my shade to give it a go and here’s what I thought 🙂
At first glance I thought, well this packaging is great. It’s compact, easy to carry in any purse, seems simple enough to apply and overall cute. Then I realized, this is much less than the usual 1 oz. that most foundations come in, but the price point isn’t bad for a quick go-to foundation, ringing in at just under $7 at most drugstores.
I’m currently a good #230 (natural buff) match with this line. The line currently comes in 12 oil-free shades so there’s a ‘good’ range of shades to start, hopefully if it does better they’ll expand the range to match more skin-tones.
Now for the actual review of the product. It’s pretty easy to apply. I simply drew on a few streaks across my face then blended it in with a brush. On the second go of trying the product I was in a bit of a rush so I just used clean hands to blend the foundation and it was just as effective. The product is really smooth and feels pretty weightless which is a great pro. It also felt velvety and matte which was great. My only gripes about this product are that I’m pretty sure I’ll run through it much faster than most of my foundations and that it’s not ‘great’ coverage type of foundation, although it IS buildable. After applying, I set it with the matching Fit Me pressed powder and a powder brush and I was good to go. It allows for faster makeup application and did keep my face shine-free!
I probably won’t stick with this as a permanent replacement for my beloved Studio Tech/Fix foundations or my favourite, MUFE’s Mat Velvet, but for an every day or on the go makeup, it didn’t disappoint. 🙂
