A few months ago, while in Pretty People Vintage (located at 108 N. Patrick Street, Alexandria, VA, right in Old Town Alexandria) I found a pair of really unique skull hoop earrings.
Yesterday I was digging through my accessories bin and found the ridiculous earrings. Looking at them I thought, it’s such a shame I never wear this paired with another dangly silver earring. The weight of it was just uncomfortable. I don’t know how some of you girls do it but high fives for all of you that can get through an entire workday or evening with small weights on your ears for the sake of looking fabulous! 🙂
Determined to find a way to make these work, I came up with a solution…take off some of the weight! I proceeded to remove the bottom half that dangled off the main hoop, that consisted of spikes. The hoop alone seemed odd because of the small loop at the bottom, so I removed one of the spikes and attached it to the loop. Rather than pair the earring with a stud or something silver to compliment it, why not use the leftover pieces?! Again digging through my bin of accessories, I found an earring that was missing it’s other half, took the hook off and attached it to the tail end of the earring that I had just previously removed… and voila! I now have a lighter, wearable pair of earrings that makes a perfect pair. Not to mention, the fact that they’re different from one another gives them a little bit of a punch (if they needed any more of that).
